Dr. Andrew Barendse

Dr. Andrew Barendse (PhD), a LINK Centre Honorary Adjunct Professor since 2007, has more than 25 years of experience in the telecommunications sector, and his research interests range across telecommunications regulation, corporate strategy, and public values in network industries.
He is currently the Managing Executive: Regulatory Affairs, at Vodacom [Pty] Ltd., and a Non-Executive Director of the International Institute of Communications. Before joining Vodacom, he served as Group Executive: Regulatory Affairs at Telkom SA SOC Ltd.
Barendse earned his PhD from Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands, where his thesis was entitled “Regional Regulation as a New Form of Telecom Sector Governance” and where he held the positions of Assistant Professor and Research Fellow. Barendse also has an MBA from the University of Cape Town and a Bachelor's in Education Management from Rand Afrikaans University (now the University of Johannesburg).
