Wits is committed to ensuring that staff with disabilities have equitable opportunities to succeed, contribute, and advance in their careers. The DRU's Academic and Facilities Access Coordinator works with you and your department to identify and implement reasonable accommodations tailored to your specific needs.

How DRU can help:

  • Workplace Modifications - Adjustments to your physical workspace, accessible office equipment, and ergonomic solutions
  • Assistive Technology - Screen readers, magnifiers, voice recognition software, and specialised input devices based on professional recommendations
  • Campus Access - Disability parking, accessible meeting venues, and support navigating campus facilities

The Process

  1. Request an accommodation using the DRU Voluntary Disability Disclosure and Work Reasonable Accommodation Form
  2. Consultation - We review your needs and assess available solutions
  3. Collaboration - We work with your line manager, HR, and relevant departments to implement reasonable accommodations
  4. Ongoing support - Regular check-ins ensure your needs continue to be met

All requests are assessed in accordance with the Policy on the Workplace Inclusion of Employees with Disabilities, the nature of the request, financial implications, and available resources.
