Showcasing their work in the field, our speakers present us with innovations in African Traditional Medicine and help us dream towards a future where biomedicine and African Traditional Medicine work side by side.

Mkhulu Songindaba / Bonile Jack-Pama

Bonile is an agricultural economist and a business strategist by training with an MSc Agric, MBL and PhD degrees. He has more than 30 years experience as a civil servant, lecturer, researcher, an agri-business operator and Director of companies. Bonile has served as a member of the Presidential Commission on Rural Financial Services in South Africa (Strauss Commission), Boards of Landbank (Chairperson), Agricultural Research Council (ARC), SABS Holdings (Pty) Ltd (Chairperson), Johannesburg Fresh Produce Market (Pty) Ltd (Chairperson), Denny Mushrooms (Pty) Ltd, Obaro Limited; Milk South Africa (Chairman); Buhle Farmers Academy (Chairman) and Family Business as the Executive Chairman.



Gogo Simenjalo / Celuxolo Stewart

Gogo Simenjalo was born and completed her schooling in the Kingdom of Eswatini. She is a Sangoma who practices at the Zanusi Healing and Spiritual Institute. Gogo Simenjalo is a professional student who holds a BA in Health Sciences and Social Services, with a Major in Psychological Counselling. Gogo further studied Psychology and Mental Health with the University of Liverpool. Gogo Simenjalo has done courses at the University of Cape Town as well as at University College London. She has worked across Eswatini, the United Kingdom, and South Africa.

Dr Chuma Makunga

Dr C. Makunga, commonly known as Dr Chuma is a Clinical lecturer in the Department of Family Medicine, teaching Primary Healthcare and Emergency Medicine in the Nelson Mandela Fidel Castro (NMFC) training collaboration project. She supports the collaborations across the Family Medicine Department teams and works closely with GEMP, BCMP, HSS and Rural Health in both teaching & learning as well as coordination. She is a MEDUNSA graduate who is currently an emerging fellow in Public Health (Health Systems and Policy) with the University of Pretoria’s School of Health Systems and Public Health.
