Intercultural Communication and Mentoring in the Workplace

Studies in communication across different cultures and social groups and how culture affects communication

The purpose of this short course, offered at NQF level 5, is to assist students in understanding human communication in multi-cultural settings – with a particular focus on the mass media and/or the workplace. Participants learn to come to terms with diversity in South Africa and how to reduce intercultural misunderstandings. 足球竞彩app排名s discuss communication in the context of the world of business and management, including organisational functions and meeting styles, management activities (planning, organising, leading, controlling, interacting), powerful communication, pacing and leading, motivation, as well as conflict management and mentoring in the workplace.

Course Fee

The course costs R12 350.

Classes are subject to a minimum of 8 students. We reserve the right not to run a particular course in an intake if there is insufficient demand. 

Duration

The course is part-time and runs for 8 weeks (40 hours) 

Qualification

Participants who meet all minimum requirements for the course are awarded a certificate of competence. 

Programme Overview

Intercultural communication can be taken as a stand-alone course. In this course, learners gain insight as to their own personality and how they generally intereact with other people. This knowledge is honed to prepare learners to interact with people with different cultures in a respectful manner. This course also equips learners with the skills needed to perform as mentors. Learners learn how to give constructuve criticism and to accept criticism with grace and aplomb.

This course is presented in a blended learning format. Class times: 09:00 - 15:30

Entry Requirements

Please ensure you meet the following requirements when applying for the course: 

  • Grade 12 or equivalent (approved by SAQA).
  • Fluent English.
  • Fluent in at least one other language.
  • Basic computer literacy.

This course provides learners with the skills required to better communicate with people from a variety of cultures.  This course is paramount for legal interpreters as well as anyone who regularly deals with conflict resolution in the workplace.
