A Great Achievement by Keaton Fitzpatrick

-

Economic Science Masters student Keaton Fitzpatrick has been nominated to attend the 7th Lindau Meeting hosted in Germany in August

In recognition of Keaton Fitzpatrick’s excellent coursework performance in the Masters in Economic Science degree offered by Wits’ School of Economics and Finance, he was nominated to attend “The 7th Lindau Meeting Of The Laureates Of The Sveriges Riksbank Prize In Economic Sciences In Memory Of Alfred Nobel.” Following a rigorous selection process, Keaton’s application was successful and he has been invited to attend this prestigious meeting. The meeting is to be held from 23–27 August 2022 in Lindau, Germany, and to be attended by over 400 young economists (graduate/post-doc students and young professionals) from 69 countries. Eligible applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to the field of Economic Sciences. In the past, two of Wits’ Masters in Economic Science students have also been successful candidates.

The approximately 20 Economics Nobel Laureates expected to attend the Lindau Meeting include Prof. Lars Hansen (largely honoured for his development and usage of a statistical method for dealing with asset-price data, the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM)), Prof. Robert Merton (recognised for his contribution to a new method to determine the value of derivatives), Prof. Edmunds Phelps (acknowledged for his analysis of intertemporal tradeoffs in macroeconomic policy), Prof. Joseph Stiglitz (credited for his analyses of markets with asymmetric information) and Prof. Richard Thaler (recognised for his contributions to behavioural economics).

Keaton would like to extend his gratitude to Prof. Uma Kollamparambil (Head of School of Economics and Finance) for encouraging him to apply for this incredible opportunity, but also to Prof. Prudence Magejo (Head of Economics Division), and Prof. Gregory Farrell and Dr. Cyril May (Economics and Finance Honours and Masters International Finance Lecturers) for their support and letters of recommendation.

Wits’ School of Economics and Finance, and undoubtedly the wider Wits Community, congratulate Mr. Fitzpatrick on this fantastic achievement, wishing him all the best in his future career (and possibly academic) prospects.

Keaton was recently appointed as an ‘Industry Analyst’ at Fitch Solutions. Fitch Solutions is the authoritative source of Fitch Ratings’ highly regarded credit research and ratings; along with Standard and Poor’s Global Ratings and Moody’s, Fitch Ratings is one of the major global ratings agencies. Credit risk and country risk are topics covered in Wits’ School of Economics and Finance’s postgraduate International Finance courses.
