Guide to Curriculum Planning

The BSc degree is flexible and provides students with an opportunity to structure or ‘design’ their own curriculum. Courses may run for a year or for only part of a year. Every course has a credit value and a certain number of credits are needed in order to complete the programme. 

Start by considering which field of study interests you and which courses you want to do. Then check to see what constraints are in place eg, are you required to have passed a pre-requisite course, do your courses clash on the time table etc)

Credit Structure

The BSc curriculum is based on a credit system. Each course carries a number of credits, defined both by level and duration.  You are required to complete 432 credits of which 144 credits must be achieved from level III and 144 credits on level II. A minimum of 72 credits from level III must be derived from an approved Science major course offered in the Faculty Science.

The credits are structured as follow:

Level I = 36 credits
Level II = 48 credits
Level III = 72 credits

Combination of courses:

4 x level I courses = 144 credits
3 x level II courses = 144 credits
2 x level III courses = 144 credits
TOTAL = 432 credits
