The Division houses the largest State genetics services laboratory in Africa, offering genetic testing to a large part of the country and clinical and genetic counselling services to southern Gauteng. Chromosomal microarray analysis was introduced in late 2019 and next-generation sequencing based testing for monogenic disorders was launched in 2021, with the scope of tests being expanded progressively.
