Undergraduate teaching
The primary objective of the undergraduate programme is to provide didactic training in diseases that present in the oral and maxillo-facial region.? In line with international guidelines, teaching sessions include practical demonstration of microscopic features of oral diseases.
The emphasis at the undergraduate level for the?OPAT3003A?course, which is undertaken by the BDS students in their 3rd?year of study, is to provide students with a thorough understanding of oral, dental and systemic diseases with oral manifestations which they may in the course of their professional career be called upon to diagnose and treat.
The program also serves to enhance the students’ understanding of the role of the dentist in the prevention and awareness of dental and oral diseases within communities served and in relation to the National Oral Health Policy within the National Health Service.
Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS): Oral Pathology (OPAT3003A)

Bachelor of Oral Health Sciences (Oral Hygiene): Pathology for Dental Auxiliaries (OPAT1004A)
The Pathology for Dental Auxiliaries (OPAT1004A) course is offered to oral hygiene students in the first year of the Bachelor of Oral Health Sciences degree. The course encompasses indepth knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of general and oral pathology and is aligned with the revised, expanded scope of practice for oral hygienists including patient education, care, treatment options and adequate referral.
