Requirements for potential registrars
The Department aims to recruit one or two registrars (residents) every year. The length of the postgraduate training in Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery is a minimum of four year of full time study. We accept both national and international students for postgraduate training in Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery. Below are some of the criteria considered in the selection of potential postgraduate students:
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Dentist in category Independent practice
- At least two years’ experience as a Dentist post Community Service
- Successful completion of primary examination (Physiology, General Pathology and Anatomy) ATLS course are prerequisites
- Postgraduate qualification in MFOS, service in the public service and exposure to MFOS are highly recommended
- Basic Surgical Skills and Research Techniques courses may have additional benefits
