2025 SAICE Presidential Visit

Mr Friedrich Slabbert spoke of the crucial role of engineers in shaping society and advancing national development.

The South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) 2025 Presidential Visit held at Wits on 22 May was a resounding success. SAICE President, Mr Friedrich Slabbert delivered an inspiring and insightful address to about 20 staff and 150 students from the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Drawing on over 30 years of extensive experience in the civil engineering industry, Mr Slabbert highlighted the pivotal role that engineers play in shaping society and advancing national development.

He also underscored the significant contributions of SAICE in the engineering landscape, from influencing critical policy decisions at the national level to upholding the standards and integrity of the profession.

Mr Slabbert offered valuable guidance on what it means to be a thought leader and expert in the field, sharing personal experiences and lessons that resonated with the audience.

The visit provided students with much-needed encouragement and renewed confidence in their future roles as impactful contributors to the engineering sector.
