Announcing the top 16 PIL Moot teams

CALS and the 足球竞彩app排名 Litigation Society announce the 16 teams through to the third round of this year's Public Interest Law Moot Court Competition

The Centre for Applied Legal Studies and the 足球竞彩app排名 Litigation Society are partnering to host the annual Public Interest Law Moot Court Competition. The opening round of this year's Competition closed in January 2026 and saw over 400 teams register and provide written submissions in this year's hypothetical case, which raises questions about public participation. 

We are proud to announce the top 16 teams who have made it through to the next round of the competition (in no particular order): 

  1. PIL 137 – Bright Muza, Keona Amod-Campbell and Dhanishka Singh (University of the Witwatersrand)
  2. PIL 035 – Zanele Mbongwe, Anele Nosipho Khanyile and Neliswa Luthando Ntshangase (University of Fort Hare)

  4. PIL 193 – Philasande Mhlungu and Lwazi Madlala (University of Fort Hare)

  6. PIL 209 – Boniswa Mini and Colleen Mashego (University of the Free State)
  7. PIL 222 – Nkosi Mnyamana, Nhloso Maluana and Reoemetse Sikhosana (UNISA) 
  8. PIL 417 – Scebi Seme and Ndiphiwe Xobongo (University of Mpumalanga)
  9. PIL 409 – Asheeqah Petersen, Mokgadi Ramoroalo and Zintle Lilitha Qaba (Stellenbosch University)
  10. PIL 180 – Vuyisa Pikashe, Gift Portia Mamba and Leloxolo Khonzeka (University of Fort Hare)
  11. PIL 156 – Odiswa Nadia Madzibandila and Nqabayamangethe Zwane (Stadio Higher Education)
  12. PIL 026 – Lerato Salelwayo, Bayanda Fana and Henny Laka (University of Johannesburg)
  13. PIL 248 – Leejunior Dawu, Tania Twangu Dawu and Amyoli Kalimashe (University of the Western Cape)
  14. PIL 399 – Anele Desi, Kwakhanya Sophazi and Sandiselwe Zwane (University of the Witwatersrand)
  15. PIL 420 – Karabo Sello and Kathleen Karabo Matubatsi (UNISA)
  16. PIL 330 – Bophelo Moabi, Noxolo Mfuwana and Amanda Utembe (North West University)

On 10 March, there will be a masterclass on how to prepare oral argument ahead of the next round which includes virtual oral argument. The masterclass is open to all teams who made it through to the top 32
