Applications for the appointment to the full time position of Project Co-ordinator of the Wits Justice Project (WJP) are now open.
The Journalism Department in the School of Literature, Language and Media invites applications for appointment to the full time position of Project Co-ordinator of the Wits Justice Project (WJP). The WJP explores new notions of journalism and social responsibility by bringing together a rare combination of investigative reporting, education, law, and advocacy. In its work, it is pushing the boundaries of journalism, encouraging reporters to tackle human rights issues and makes use not just of publication, but of the courts and partnerships with activists and advocates.
Position: Project Coordinator Wits Justice Project 100% (AD09)
Grant funded, fixed term position: 01 January 2016 to 31 December 2019
Requirements:
- Postgraduate degree preferably in relevant fields such as journalism or law
- Understanding of the media and/or law an advantage
- 5-plus years’ leadership experience in NGO sector
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
- Expert analytical skills and ability to make strategic and operational decisions
- Proven ability to persuade and to govern an independent-minded team through consensus and cooperation
- Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop a high-performance team, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
- Strong partnership and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
- Track record of effectively leading a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
- Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
This person is responsible for:
- Strategic direction, planning, decision-making and implementation
- Donor relations and fundraising
- Advocacy and stakeholder relations
- Project planning, budgeting, management and monitoring
