"Work to develop the world’s first HIV vaccine is just one example of potentially transformative research that has been crippled by the change in U.S. policy. An effective vaccine that could protect whole populations from the virus “would be a really big deal,” said Patrick Arbuthnot, a South African researcher working on the development of an HIV vaccine using messenger RNA technology.
