Welcome to 2018, Witsies
- Wits University
Professor Adam Habib explains how free education will be further rolled out in future in his first video message to students and staff for 2018.
The Wits Vice-Chancellor and Principal also has a special message for first year students and he speaks about the free education for students from households with a collective household income of under R350 000.
Habib expands on the partnership between management and the SRC that resulted in the establishment of a R10 million fund to assist qualifying returning students.
The challenges related to the demand for student accommodation are addressed as well as the University’s investment in infrastructure, and especially the gateways project in Braamfontein which will affect most Witsies.
He emphasises the importance of quality teaching and learning and expands on the investment into teaching facilities that will be built and upgraded this year.
Habib rounds up with a mention of his six month sabbatical leave, from now until September. Professor Tawana Kupe will serve as the Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal during this period.
