Facilitated By:
Prof Jonathan Klaaren: Professor of Law & Society at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. He works in the areas of competition & regulation, the legal profession, migration & citizenship, and socio-legal studies. His most recent sole-authored book is From Prohibited Immigrants to Citizens: The Origins of Citizenship and Nationality in South Africa (2017). He holds a PhD in sociology from Yale University and law degrees from Columbia (JD) & Wits (LLB). He served as Head/Dean of the Wits Law School from 2010 to 2013 and as Director of the School’s Mandela Institute from 2005 to 2007. In 2016, he served as an Acting Judge on the High Court of South Africa (South Gauteng).
Presenters:
David Geral: A partner in the Financial Services Regulatory Practice at Bowmans, David specialises in pensions, healthcare, and group insurances, advising on governance, compliance, and dispute resolution, and is recognised by Chambers and Partners for his expertise in Fintech and insurance.
Neil Kirby: An admitted attorney and a Director at Werksmans Inc., Neil serves as the firm’s Head of Healthcare Services. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the World Association for Medical Law.
Howard Snoyman: An admitted attorney and ethicist, Howard is the Head of Legal and Ethics at Discovery Health Medical Scheme. He holds LLB and MSc. Med (Bioethics and Health Law) degrees, and is currently undertaking his PhD, specifically examining the extent to which the law would need to change to broaden access to medical scheme membership in South Africa.
