Armstrong with Open AIR at AfricaOSH, Kumasi, Ghana (13 April 2018)

LINK Centre Visiting Fellow Dr Chris Armstrong was part of the Open African Innovation Research network (Open AIR) team that presented a panel on maker movement research at the Africa Open Science Hardware (AfricaOSH) Summit in Kumasi, Ghana. Armstrong and Open AIR colleagues Yaw Adu-Gyamfi (Centre for Social Innovations, Ghana), Oulwile Maselwanyane (Tshwane University of Technology) and Vipal Jain (University of Ottawa) presented on the first day of the summit, which ran from 13 to 15 April at the Kumasi Hive technology hub, which includes a makerspace.

The Open AIR panel presented on:

  • the Open AIR research programme
  • research into the maker movement in Ghana
  • research into the maker movement in South Africa
  • research into maker movements in North Africa, Kenya
  • deepening of the maker research in South Africa
  • research into making in Canada
  • research into biohacking
  • future Open AIR research directions
