Practical Legal Studies
The Practical Legal Studies course is a full-year course for final-year LLB students. The course is unlike anything law students experience at university, insofar as it entails learning by doing. We call this experiential learning.
Final year law students consult with actual clients, open files, draft legal documents, attend court and litigate actual cases, all under the close supervision of qualified legal practitioners at the Wit Law Clinic.
Practical Legal Studies aims to teach law students how to apply and think about the law in practice. Solving actual legal problems involves a combination of knowledge, skills and values.
Candidate Legal Practitioner Programme
The Wits Law Clinic is accredited by the Legal Practice Council of South Africa and offers practical vocational training to aspiring Legal Practitioners. Our Candidate Legal Practitioner programme offers candidates the opportunity to work in specialised areas of law. Through providing access to justice to marginalised communities in South Africa candidate legal practitioners will gain vital experience for their future legal career.
