Strategy Statement

We have a bold and courageous vision to substantially reduce the individual and societal burden of cancer and infectious diseases through collaborative, cross-disciplinary, ground-breaking research with translation to effective tools and strategies.

You have landed in a new world where we convert unknowns to knowns and we identify new pathways for reducing the impact of high burden diseases in South Africa, sub-Saharan Africa and beyond.

IDORI's world-class infectious diseases and oncology scientists and clinicians converge, collaborate, and create innovative research that will yield novel, tangible solutions to address diseases that cause substantial mortality, suffering, economic hardship, inequitably experienced on the African continent.

We have a bold and courageous vision to substantially reduce the individual and societal burden of cancer and infectious diseases through collaborative, cross-disciplinary, ground-breaking research with translation to effective tools and strategies.

Based in Africa, IDORI exists to leverage the convergence of scientific inquiry at the University of the Witwatersrand in the fields of infectious disease, cancer, immunology, pathology, clinical science, epidemiology, and socio-behavioural sciences, amongst others.

We conduct research, carry out analyses, and develop products and tools that will be designed to ultimately advance the prevention, early diagnosis, and management of high burden cancers and infectious diseases, while providing a nurturing and supportive environment for developing, promoting and supporting successful academic careers.
