Final Call for Papers

The Hub for Multilingual Education and Literacies (HuMEL) and its partners, is pleased to announce the 12th International Conference on Language and Literacy Education, set to take place from 12 - 14 September 2025. This year's theme focuses on the intersection of translanguaging, literacies, and technological affordances, exploring how these key elements are transforming the landscape of multilingual education in the 21st century.

Conference proceedings will be published in an edited volume: Translanguaging, Literacies, and Technological Affordances: Shaping the Future of Multilingual Education

We invite researchers, educators, policy makers, and practitioners to submit papers to address the following sub-themes:

Translanguaging as Pedagogy and Practice
  • Theoretical advancements and practical applications in multilingual classrooms.
  • Case studies and innovative teaching methodologies.
Multilingual Literacies
  • Developing reading, writing, and oral literacies in multilingual settings.
  • The role of literacy in advancing educational equity.
Technological Affordances in Multilingual Education
  • The use of digital tools and platforms to support language learning.
  • How technology is reshaping the classroom and teacher learner interaction.
Mother Tongue-Based Bilingual Education
  • Policies and implementation strategies.
  • Lessons from the field and global perspective
Decolonial and Global South Perspectives on Multilingualism
  • Localised approaches to multilingual education.
  • Ubuntu Translanguaging and indigenous knowledge systems.

We encourage submissions that explore innovative, interdisciplinary approaches that integrate these themes, particularly those that offer practical solutions to current educational challenges. Presentations may include research papers, posters, workshops and panel discussions.
