A host of research groups and entities can be found within the faculty and across the seven engineering schools. Browse through some of them below. Each of our Schools have many interesting research groups and units, and other important work from across the University, including multidisciplinary research projects, can be found here.

CUBES The Centre leads research that considers how urban citizens and marginalised people are affected by the material realities of cities, built environments at different scales, access to urban goods and spaces, and contestations over urban physical and political orders.
Centre for Sustainability in Mining and Industry
CSMI The Centre shares research knowledge on mining in Africa. Taking international good practice guidance, it interprets relevance for Africa and works with partners, institutions, organisations, companies and independent experts to promote responsible mining.
DSI-NRF CoE in Strong Materials
COE Strong Materials DST-NRF Centre of Excellence in Strong Materials is a research network which enables researchers to collaborate across disciplines and institutions, both locally and abroad. The CoE-SM focuses research on a wide range of strong materials.
TCSE The Transnet Centre for Systems Engineering's mission is to develop capability in Systems through education, research and engagement through projects with industry.
National Aerospace Centre - logo
National Aerospace Centre NAC is a national aerospace-focussed programme managed and hosted by Wits. The centre engages with government, industry, academia and research institutions, locally as well as internationally, in promoting sector competitiveness and developing human capital.
SACP South African Research Chair in Spatial Analysis and City Planning is an NRF funded research centre dedicated to both scholarly and applied research and seeks to support the state through good quality empirical research.

TMC The Transnet Matlafatšo Centre is a partnership between Transnet and Wits University. The Centre uses innovation and research to promote high value enterprise development.
