Jom Mama RCT in Malaysia

Co-Investigator Norris

The Jom Mama RCT aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a complex intervention among young Malaysian women and their spouses prior to pregnancy in the Seremban district in the state of Negeri Sembilan. The efficacy evaluation was based on a non-blinded, community-based (primary health care nurses and mobile health app) and individually randomised controlled trial (Skau et al. 2016). Eligible were Malaysian nulliparous women aged 20-39 years, not diagnosed with diabetes, living in Seremban and owning a smart phone. The primary outcome was change in waist circumference over an 8-month intervention period. The results of this trial and process evaluation are in the process of being published.
