Demography and Population Studies

The PhD in Demography and Population Studies is offered over 3 to 4 years.

Overview


  • The Wits Programme in Demography and Population Studies offers an interdisciplinary graduate teaching and research in demography and population studies.
  • The PhD is a full-time or part-time degree. Subject to availability of a supervisor, students are expected to complete the degree through production of a thesis. Number of journal publications, conference presentations are discussed with supervisor. Co-supervision of Honours students and teaching are negotiated with the Head of the Programme.

Entry Requirements


  • A masters degree from Wits or another university with a 70% total mark aggregate.
  • Application to be assessed by department by providing CV, 3 different proposals of the PhD, source of funding and whether full-time or part-time in the first instance.
  • Once accepted into the programme, then you apply online and a supervisor will be assigned to you.
  • Masters degree with 65% average for South African students and 70% average for non-South African students.
