Overview
Postgraduate Diploma in Education in the field of Deaf Education: Programme code: HXA01
The PGDipEd (in the field of Deaf Education) curriculum provides an opportunity for advanced study in the field of Deaf Education. Potential candidates include
- Experienced teachers of the deaf,
- School leaders (HoDs, SMT),
- Department Officials in Specialised & Inclusive Education
- Teachers and other practitioners (such as school therapists/ school psychologists) within Inclusive Education
Curriculum
Candidates are required to complete 4 compulsory courses in Deaf Education in order to graduate with 120 credits.
Courses:
- EDUC5214A: Theories and Policies within the Deaf Education Context (30 credits) NQF level 8
- EDUC5217A: Psychology, Identity and Socio-Emotional Development of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Learner (30 credits) NQF Level 8
- EDUC5215A: Pedagogy, Praxis and Research within the Context of Educating Deaf and Hard of Hearing Learners (30 credits) NQF Level 8
- EDUC5216S: Curriculum and Assessment in the Education of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Learners (30 credits) NQF Level 8
Entry Requirements
An applicant who holds a Bachelor of Education degree of this or another university within the field of Deaf Education and Deaf Studies, or equivalent as approved by the relevant university Senate, the shortest curriculum for which extends over at least four years of full-time study and has previous or concurrent relevant teaching experience within a Deaf Education context.

- Selections for programmes that have a limited intake but attract a large number of applications may only finalise the application at the end of the application cycle.
