Overview
Masters of Arts by research, Film and Television Programme Code: ARA00
Applications are invited from prospective students wishing to obtain a clearly identifiable Masters degree that reflects the interdisciplinary scope of such research.
The IACS Department offers a Masters by Research (submission of a written dissertation of 40,000 to 45,000 words), and aMasters by Dissertation and Creative Work (a written dissertation with a practical/creative project comprising a minimum of 20,000 words and a practical/creative work that does not constitute more than 50% of the total work).
A student accepted into the Masters programme of study for either degree listed above may register online, or in person at the Faculty of Humanities office, in the designated period in January, April, July, or September in the first year of enrolment.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must be in possession of a BA Honours degree (or equivalent) in any cognate field of study. Additionally,
i. An applicant must have an average of at least 65% in the final year of her/his Honours degree or Honours equivalent year of study.
ii. An applicant must submit
- a cover letter/letter of motivation indicating reasons for applying for the MA by Research
- a written expression of interest outlining the proposed topic of research
- a scholarly sample of writing for assessment of suitability for MA level of research and writing
- curriculum vitae/resumé
- academic transcripts of all prior degrees or diplomas.
iii. Applicants will be required to present themselves for an interview in person, or via telephone or videoconference, to a selection panel.

- Selections for programmes that have a limited intake but attract a large number of applications may only finalise the application at the end of the application cycle.
