I Am A Wits Graduate. I Have Been A Psychiatrist Since 2002, And Employed At Tara Hospital Since 2004. I Am Registered Neuropsychiatrist Subspecialist With The Hpcsa Since 2016. I Was One Of The First 5 Neuropsychiatrists ‘Grandfathered’ By Prof Trevor Hurwitz, University Of The British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.
I Manage A Specialist Neuropsychiatric Ward And A Specialist Outpatient Clinic.
The Tara Neuropsychiatric Clinic Deals With Varied Diagnosis From Traumatic Brain Injuries, Neuropsychiatric Difficulties, Adolescents And Children With Complex Co-Morbidites Such As Epilepsy, Adhd And Tic Disorders And An Hiv Neuropsychiatric Clinic.
The Neuropsychiatric Clinic Is Run In Collaboration With A Sessional Neurologist. We Have A Botox Clinic Which Has Been In Existence Since 2021 To Assist Patients With Contractures From Strokes/Tbi, Movement Disorders Such As Tremors, Dystonias And More Recently We Are Doing Botox For Patients With Severe Side-Effects From Antipsychotics.
Neuropsychiatry At Tara Hospital Has A 24 Hour Eeg Facility For Our Inpatients And An Eeg Technician Which Provides Services Not Only To Our Hospital, But To Other Hospitals On The Academic Platform.
I Have Previously Been Part Of The Multidisciplinary Team At A Specialist Huntington’s Clinic At Cmjah

During The Pandemic, Tara Vaccination Centre Was At Forefront Of Reaching Out To The Community By Doing Educational Videos On Social Media Platforms.

From The 1st Of January 2022 I Have Been Appointed As The Divisional Head Of Neuropsychiatry At The University Of The Witwatersrand. As A Divison We Have Four Neuropsychiatrists Across The Academic Platform, One At Bara, One At Cmjah And Two At Tara, And One Fellow Who Is In Training. We Are A Small Division At This Stage But Slowly Making Our Mark.
We Are Collaborating Across Other Disciplines To Ensure That Neuropsychiatry Develops At Wits, But Also Across South Africa. We Have Been Approached By Other African Countries With An Interest In Training And Providing A Second Opinion On Complex Cases.
The Future Has Many Opportunities In Neuropsychiatry Research And Development And I Am Priviledged To Be In The Position To Coordinate And Lead This Dynamic Team.
