Dr Craig Bracken

I did my  MBBCh(WITS) FCPSYCH(SA) PGDIP(Health Sciences Education) (WITS) at  WITS University, and am a  joint staff member employed at Tara Hospital. I have  worked at a general hospital Helen Joseph Hospital as the clinical head of the psychiatry department from 1997- 2015. I have an interest in ECT and have been involved in training and performing ECT at Helen Jospeh and Tara Hospitals. I have completed Post Graduate Diploma in Health Sciences Education at WITS in 2015 while being the chair of the WITS Psychiatry Undergraduate Committee. I am registered as a subspecialist neuropsychiatrist in 2016 after being part of in the original neuropsychiatry training partnership with the Neuropsychiatry Department with the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Since 2016 I have  worked in a specialized psychotherapy program at Tara Hospital. I have an interest is severe personality disorders and  an interest in the integration of neurobiological and psychological disorders such as in the clinical example of functional neurological disorders. I run DBT groups in the psychotherapy program and have an interest in the practice, teaching and integration of evidence-based treatments for personality disorders in a stepped care manner. I have presented in a workshop and plenary on Personality Disorders at the 2022 Biological Psychiatry Congress. I am an elected CMSA Council of Psychiatry member 2020-2023.
