Obstetrics and Gynaecology

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology teaches Obstetrics and Gynaecology to undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University.

Teaching and training

The Department has divisions at the three major teaching hospitals, namely, Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital and Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital who teach and provide clinical services to manage all women who come to these hospitals during their pregnancy or for treatment of any gynaecological condition.

Rotations

Obstetrics is taught to undergraduate students during their 5th year of training and Gynaecology during the final year. Each discipline has an annual six week rotation during which the students will get their tutorials, practical experience and assessment. 足球竞彩app排名s will be allocated to one of the three above mentioned hospitals for their rotations each year.

Registrar programme

Qualified doctors who have completed their internship and community service are eligible to apply for a 4-year training post. Registrars will be required to register for an MMed in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Wits. They will have to meet the requirements of the College of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA). This entails completing a logbook and passing the FCOG. Once this and their MMed are submitted they may register with the HPCSA as a specialist.
