Analytical techniques
Analysing specific components in AMD is challenging due to the high prevalence of other analytes which causes interference. This is known as the matrix effect.
One of our project goals was to develop a technique to reliably determine the concentration of various trace elements in AMD—a much-needed advancement that would allow us to assess the performance of our technology in a more credible and dependable way.
Our partner, CM Solutions, successfully developed a method using Inductively Coupled Plasma techniques, that accurately quantifies trace elements amid the complex matrices of AMD. This innovative approach adjusts for the matrix effect, ensuring reliable results.
This method was presented in a technical conference paper at the International Mine Water Association conference, marking a significant advancement in environmental monitoring and AMD analysis.
