Senate and Council Joint Committees

Council together with Senate, have a set of joint committees, including, a Nominations Committee, an Honorary Degrees Committee, a University Research Committee, a Naming Committee, a Human Resources Committee and a 足球竞彩app排名 Services Advisory Committee.

Nominations Committee

The Nominations Committee proposes to Senate and Council the remits and compositions of committees and joint committees of Senate and Council. In proposing these names this committee  pays attention to issues of equity, increasing academic participation and continuity (it takes into account expertise required given the work of the committees).

Honorary Degrees Committee

The Honorary Degrees Committee (HDC) considers submissions and makes recommendations to the Senate and Council regarding conferring Honorary degrees of master or doctor, Emeritus Professorships and Gold Medals upon any person who has rendered distinguished services in the advancement of arts, science, jurisprudence or other branches of learning, or who had otherwise rendered himself/herself worthy of such a degree.

University Research and Innovation Committee

The University Research and Innovation Committee (URIC) is a sub-committee of Senate and Council responsible for Governance and oversight of research, postgraduate research and innovation. It develops and monitors policies and strategies that foster high-quality, ethical and sustainable research, while holding management accountable. UR&IC oversees research performance, funding allocations, partnerships, and compliance and approves the annual research and innovation report to Council and Senate. It also advises the DVC: Research and Innovation on strategic and operational matters.

Naming Committee

The Naming Committee is responsible for managing the University’s naming processes and implementing the policy. The Naming Committee considers the motivation in support of naming to establish whether this is in the best interest of the University and in line with the Naming Policy, taking into account the SET’s view and the strategic imperatives of the University. The Naming Committee exercises such additional functions, responsibilities and authorities as may be assigned or delegated to it by the Senate and Council from time to time. Where there is an overlap of responsibilities between committees of the Council, the respective Chairs will determine the most appropriate committee to consider the item, or alternatively to hold a special joint meeting of both committees.

Human Resources Committee

The Human Resources Committee (HRC) is a joint committee of Senate and Council responsible for advising on and overseeing human resources policy and practice across the University. It ensures compliance with Employment Equity legislation, monitors staffing and HR implementation in faculties and divisions and reviews appeals, anomalies and individual staff cases. The HRC also provides input on staff development strategies, advises on remuneration and HR policy matters when requested and oversees external service providers’ compliance with the University’s Code of Conduct. Through its subcommittees and reporting duties, it supports Council and Senate in maintaining fair, effective and compliant HR governance.

The 足球竞彩app排名 Services Advisory Committee provides advice on student assessment, research into student services and how such research findings should be communicated to students, organisations and staff with a view to an improved understanding of the student population at Wits University. Appropriate regulatory policies, which are required to meet the needs of students.  Included in these are residence rules and regulations, alcohol abuse, sexual harassment, human rights, safety and security and HIV/AIDS. Promoting of policy development and the review of policies with regard to student services matters and to communicate this to the Senior Executive Team, SRC, Senate, Council, in accordance with the mission, vision and objectives of the University.
